Water birth is a method of delivering a baby in the water. Actually it has no difference from normal method. One thing that makes it different is the process is done in the water. A woman who would like to deliver her baby through this method must soak in a tub full of warm water of 36 – 37°C.

Water birth offers benefits to the women. First, it quickens the process of delivering baby. It takes only about 1,5 to 2 hours compared to the normal process which takes more than 2 hours. Second, the warm water in the tub helps the baby to-be delivered adjust to the new environment easily since the temperature of the water is almost the same as that of the mother’s womb.

Water birth, besides quickening the process and helping the baby adjust to his or her new world easily, reduces the pain and stress of the mother. The warm water can also help the mother feel more relaxed and comfortable because the blood circulates smoothly. Such a relaxed feeling will produce endorphin hormone, the hormone which can reduce stress.

Finally, water birth decreases the risks which might happen during the delivery: death, wound, bleeding, twisted, etc. Above all, a baby who is delivered through water birth will be fresh, clean and less stressed because the warm water makes the vagina more flexible and elastic. That way, the baby can come out smoothly.
