Sleeping is one of the most important needs in human life. Sleeping functions to refresh body state and to regain energy for the next activities. Each individual needs different length of sleeping duration. Some may sleep for eight hours a day while other may need more or less. The length, however, is not the most important aspect in sleeping. The quality is much more important. To gain a good quality of sleeping, one must pay serious attention to the position when sleeping.
Position of sleep has major impact on health condition. The position of how our body lies contributes to spinal health. Some prefer to sleep on their belly. Sleeping on belly with face sides down on pillow is in fact the worst position of sleep. People who sleep on their front need to turn their head to the left or right side in order to be able to breathe. This means they put their neck in an extreme position. So, it brings the spine a burden. Besides, it also presses the lung which then causes hard breathing and wrinkles the face.
Sleeping on your left is not better than on your front as well. This position causes a pressure on your heart so that it disturbs blood circulation. This can also cause you to get a nightmare.
So, how is the right sleep position like? Sleeping on your right side is considered the best position since this position does not put any of your vital organs in a pressure. It keeps your body relaxed. To make it better, you need to put a thin pillow underneath your knees in addition to the pillow under your head to prevent your hips from leaning forward which may twist your spine.
Sleep, as a matter of fact, determines the state of health and the quality of life. To maximize the quality of sleep, we can take a warm bath 90 minutes before bedtime. We need to avoid having big meal, consuming caffeine or doing exercise before sleeping. All of these will disturb our sleeping.
