From around 114,510 students participating in UN of SMA and SMK this year, 52,537 students of SMA (General High School), 53,940 SMK (Vocational High School) and 42 Extra Ordinary High School in DKI Jakarta have been announced passed from their final examination (UN) while 7,991 of them failed in the test due to their failure to meet the required standard score of 5.25.

Margani M. Mustar, Head Office of Middle and High Education Affairs of DKI Jakarta announced (June 14, 2008) that the passing rate of SMK this year increases by 96,19% compared to last year’s 92,25%, while of SMA decreases by 91,98% compared to last year’s 93,78%.

Those who are failed in the test, 4,416 students of General SMA and 3,575 students od Vocational SMK, are not yet identified what schools they are from and what makes them failed. However, Mustar speculated that the cause of the failure could be due to the more difficult test problems and the more number of subjects tested (6 subjects) this year compared to the ones of last year (3 subjects).

“Our office is still undergoing an evaluation and analysis to find out the factors that make big number of students failed in the final test this year” said Margani M. Mustar.
